The 23rd annual Empire Open Dance Festival took place from July 31 to August 4, 2024, in Jersey City, NJ. Under the new ownership and organization of Donnie Burns MBE and Heidi Burns, the event adopted an exciting theme, "ICONS of the EMPIRE." This year's competition saw a diverse international presence, with dancers representing countries such as Australia, Azerbaijan, Canada, China, Cyprus, England, Greece, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Taiwan, Ukraine, and the United States of America.

The Empire Open Dance Festival featured a full schedule of ballroom competitions across all dance styles. The event opened with Adult Pro/Am and Mixed Amateur Rhythm and Smooth competitions, as well as night club and cabaret events. A highlight was the gala night on August 1, which included the Under 21 Amateur Latin Championship and performances by world-renowned dance champions. Participants embraced the theme, dressing as their favorite icons from various fields.
The festival continued with Latin and Ballroom competitions, including the Open Amateur and Professional Championships in multiple categories. The final day, dedicated to EMPIRE4KIDS DAY, celebrated young dancers with pre-teen, junior, and youth events, culminating in the Open Amateur Cabaret Championship. Throughout the week, the event honored top performers, teachers, and studios, making it a memorable celebration of ballroom dance.
