In the heart of Reston, VA, the 59th annual Virginia State DanceSport Championships unfolded with grandeur from July 17-24, 2024. The VSDC is renowned as one of America's longest-running ballroom competitions. Organized by the dynamic trio of Dan Messenger, Rosendo Fumero, and Francesco Flumiani, the competition stood out not only for its rich history but also for offering some of the highest top teacher prizes in the country. This year's event was a testament to the enduring allure and excitement of ballroom dancing, firmly establishing the Virginia State DanceSport Championships as a highlight on the dance calendar.

The Virginia State DanceSport Championships commenced with great enthusiasm on Wednesday with SESSION 1, featuring Night Club, Country, and Swing Dance. This year's Night Club theme, 'Soul Train,' invited participants to 'Bring your Funk!' and set a vibrant tone for the event. Thursday's SESSION 2 included Closed and Open American Rhythm Single Dances and Championships in Bronze and Silver levels, along with captivating Solo Exhibitions. SESSION 3 on Thursday evening showcased more advanced competitors in American Rhythm, from Closed Gold to Advanced, culminating in the Championships and Scholarships for Gold level dancers. Friday's SESSION 4 brought the American Smooth Single Dances and Championships in Bronze and Silver, along with exciting Solos, Formations, and the 'Best of the Best' Showcase Challenge. SESSION 5 on Friday evening featured Closed and Open American Smooth competitions for higher levels, as well as multiple Pro Rising Star categories. Saturday's SESSION 6 was packed with Closed and Open International Ballroom and Latin Single Dances and Championships across all levels, from Bronze to Gold. The grand finale, SESSION 7 on Saturday evening, included the Opening Ceremonies, Pro-Am Scholarship Challenge Awards, an array of top awards, and the thrilling Professional Showdance. The event concluded with Open Professional competitions in American Rhythm, International Ballroom, American Smooth, and International Latin.
